Overview

To ensure confidentiality information has been redacted from projects.

As a UI/UX Visual Designer at PSE, my primary responsibility was to develop solutions for complex challenges, focusing on the intersection of scientific research and human factors. My role required collaboration with diverse teams to design interfaces. While specifics are confidential, the scope of my work extended to designing the company’s website, ensuring ADA compliance, developing design libraries, graphics, and contributing

to various civilian projects. These responsibilities provided me the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technologies and drive innovation within a dynamic and demanding environment. This experience has significantly sharpened my skills and deepened my expertise in UX design across multiple platforms and contexts.

Project 1. Design UI Components

In this role, my daily activities varied widely, encompassing everything from brainstorming solutions to crafting PDF documents and debugging front-end code. A significant achievement was the development of a responsive component library. This library included interactive buttons and a straightforward copy-and-paste functionality, which allowed engineers to implement code efficiently. By meticulously detailing every aspect, such as color, fonts, strokes, and icons, I ensured that both our team and the end-users enjoyed a seamless and intuitive experience. This approach not only streamlined our workflow but also promoted effective collaboration and elevated the quality of our final product.

Project 2. Designing a UI

I dedicated several weeks to acquire knowledge from an extensive library of acronyms, each subsequent volume proving more technical than the last. Once fully integrated into the team, my primary responsibility was redesigning the UI.

UI Design

In this specific role, my primary focus was on developing a new user interface. The process began with extensive research, to gain a clear understanding of the goals. Given the breadth of the domain, it took several weeks to familiarize myself with the new terminology. Following this, I initiated brainstorming sessions and created initial illustrations. These were continuously refined through extensive iterative feedback, ultimately leading to the development of detailed, high-fidelity models using Figma.

User Personas

These type or personas where created to help ensure that the design process remains focused on the end-user’s needs. In command and control environments, where decisions are critical and time-sensitive, understanding the specific roles, responsibilities, and needs of each user type (such as operators, commanders, or analysts) is crucial.

The Electric Grid

In addition to our other endeavors, we undertook several civilian projects. During this particular project, my focus was on identifying potential threats and devising solutions to ensure energy stability and security. My efforts aimed to enhance the resilience and reliability of energy systems, contributing to the betterment of the community and its energy infrastructure.

Website Redesign and ADA Compliance

After months of advocacy, I secured the necessary budget for a much-needed redesign of our 13-year-old website, which had become outdated in both appearance and functionality. Navigating company politics and the interests of numerous stakeholders posed significant challenges. To address these efficiently, I partnered with a dedicated designer, and together, over six months, we collected and integrated feedback to ensure all stakeholder requirements were met. Throughout the development process, we emphasized ADA compliance to ensure accessibility for all users. Utilizing Bootstrap 4.0 enabled a responsive and efficient build. The final result was a modern, user-friendly, and ADA-compliant website that revitalized our company’s online presence and satisfied all stakeholders and users.

Corporate Identity Brand Guidelines

In this project I created the Corporate Identity Brand Guidelines to establish a unified brand voice and visual consistency across all company materials. This document delineates the brand elements including the design of the cover, specific cover guidelines, detailed content layout, and the signature elements fundamental to our brand’s identity. I defined the configurations, clear space requirements, typefaces, and color schemes to enhance brand recognition. Additionally, I provided explicit guidelines on the incorrect uses of our logo to prevent misrepresentations of the brand. This guideline ensures that every piece of external and internal communication reflects the ethos and values of our brand consistently and professionally.
